Greetings, fellow Circuitians! I’m back with another story to share, and this one feels quite different from the other blogs I’ve written—at least, that’s what I believe. Alright, enough yapping—let’s get into the topic of connections.
In PR, relationships are everything. That’s why, as we stepped into the Lunar New Year, we took the opportunity to personally visit our media friends, delivering festive gifts on behalf of our client, Ford.
At first, this newbie was a bit self-conscious about the hows and whats of it all, but thankfully, with the guidance of my team lead, Jian Mei, I quickly found my footing. The goal was simple: deliver these beautifully prepared media gifts and, in the process, reconnect with our media friends in person.
But what made these visits truly special wasn’t just the act of gift-giving—it was the genuine interactions that came with them. Over two days, we caught up with familiar faces, built new connections, and gained valuable insights into the evolving media landscape. For me, it was an eye-opening experience, offering first hand exposure to different media environments.
The highlight? Meeting The Edge’s Editor-in-Chief, Kathy Fong! That’s right! I was told this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I couldn’t agree more. Truly remarkable.

Don’t get me wrong—I was just as excited to meet the rest of my media friends, especially those I had only interacted with online. Finally putting faces to names made the experience even more special. And honestly, I believe it’s time we return to the “normal” norms—where PR practitioners conduct media drops in person rather than relying solely on couriers. It makes a world of difference, especially for someone like me, who’s still new to the industry. Building these meaningful connections and understanding the media on a personal level is invaluable.

The second day was particularly memorable as we were joined by our client. Watching them engage directly with the media added another layer of depth to the experience, strengthening brand relationships in a way that emails or calls simply can’t replicate.
All in all, more than just a seasonal tradition, this experience was a powerful reminder of the human connections at the heart of PR. Conversations flowed, stories were shared, and we walked away with a renewed appreciation for the relationships that shape our industry. With that said, here’s to this newbie fostering even more meaningful connections to broaden her horizons in the PR landscape!
